Paula Badosa and Kayla Day clash in the first round of the 2026 WTA Charleston Open on Tuesday, March 31. Here’s our Badosa vs Day prediction. This preview will also include a Badosa vs Day pick.

Badosa vs Day Preview

Paula Badosa is one of four wild cards in Charleston this week. She enters this tournament ranked outside the Top 100. Badosa has played in Charleston in four previous editions. She reached the semis in her debut in 2021, and has been to two more quarterfinals since. In 2024, she lost in the first round.

Badosa has played 15 matches in 2026 so far, ahead of the start of the clay-court swing. She has compiled 7 wins and 8 losses. Her best result was reaching the semifinals of the WTA 125K event in Austin, where she lost to Bianca Andreescu. Badosa missed Indian Wells but was fit to play in Miami, where she was beaten quite comprehensively by American teenager Iva Jovic in the second round.

Kayla Day enters the 2026 Charleston Open as a qualifier. She is ranked 162nd in the WTA rankings, although she is a former Top 100 player. This will be Day’s fourth main draw participation, but she has never won a match at the event, with her last appearance in 2024 resulting in a first-round defeat to Caroline Dolehide.

Day has played 25 matches this season so far and owns an impressive 21-4 record, built from winning plenty of matches at the ITF level and climbing to inside the Top 200. She picked up a couple of hard-court titles and successfully qualified in each of her last two WTA events in Indian Wells and now Charleston.

Badosa vs Day Head-To-Head

Badosa and Day have never played at any level before this, so this will be their first career meeting.

Badosa vs Day Prediction

Badosa is currently struggling and the odds on Day are worth a second look here. Day has been in fine form on ITF and nearly took a set from Iga Swiatek in Indian Wells. The American is an all-court player and with lefty patterns that could trouble Badosa. The Spaniard is clearly not having the best of times on the court right now with recurring fitness and mental health issues. The price on Day is too big to ignore.

Nur Said's Pick: Kayla Day in three sets
