Leylah Fernandez will face Rebecca Sramkova in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Japan Open in Osaka. The match is scheduled for Friday, October 17. Here’s our Leylah Fernandez vs Rebecca Sramkova prediction. This preview will also include a Leylah Fernandez vs Rebecca Sramkova pick.

Leylah Fernandez vs Rebecca Sramkova Preview

Leylah Fernandez is coming off a second-round win over Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi. The match took 17 games to decide. Fernandez cruised in the opening set, losing just one game and closing it out in 41 minutes.

Galfi was competitive in the second set, where she held in all her service games until the ninth game, when she was broken. Fernandez held to love in the 10th game to round off a 6-1, 6-4 victory in an hour and 27 minutes.

The Canadian lefty hit 1 ace and 3 double faults. She landed 68% of first serves in play and won 81% of first serve points (29/36). Fernandez won 59% of second serve points (10/17) and saved one break point in the match. This is her first quarterfinal since Washington, where she won the tournament.

Rebecca Sramkova, for her part, beat the tenacious Ann Li in three sets to reach the Osaka quarterfinals. Sramkova won the opening set 6-2 in 33 minutes, hitting 3 aces and winning 63% of first serve points (15/24).

Sramkova’s second serve points won dwindled significantly in the second set, where she was broken for the first time in the fourth game and ended up giving away the set. But the hard-hitting Slovak found her mojo in the decider and broke Li in the crucial sixth game. She needed three match points in the end to wrap up victory.

Leylah Fernandez vs Rebecca Sramkova Head-To-Head

Fernandez and Sramkova have met once before this. That meeting took place at the 2025 Monterrey Open, where Sramkova knocked out Fernandez in three sets.

Leylah Fernandez vs Rebecca Sramkova Prediction

This will be an interesting matchup and I reckon we’ll get a high-quality match to rival their three-setter in Monterrey. Fernandez holds the baseline advantage in the longer rallies as she can expose Sramkova’s movement to her advantage. But whether the Canadian will have that luxury is also doubtful if Sramkova’s first-strike tennis holds up. I’m going with the overs in total games.

Nur Said's Pick: Over 21.5 games in the match
