Novak Djokovic will face American qualifier Zachary Svajda in the second round of the 2025 US Open. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27. Here’s our Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda prediction. This preview will also include a Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda pick.

Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda Preview

Novak Djokovic opened his 2025 US Open campaign with a comfortable straight-sets win against Next Gen star Learner Tien. In what was expected to be a tough first round for Djokovic against one of the best young talents in men’s tennis, Djokovic cruised to victory in two hours and 24 minutes. The match took 28 games to decide. Djokovic won the opening set 6-1, but was tested in the second set, where he saw off a set point and eventually prevailed in a tie-break to lead by two sets to love. Djokovic required seeing a trainer during the match, but he finished strongly, winning the final set 6-2.

Djokovic finished the match with 26 winners and 34 unforced errors. He fired seven aces and four double faults. Djokovic landed 60% of first serves in play and won 77% of first serve points (43/56). Djokovic won 47% of second serve points (18/28) and saved six of eight break points in total. This was his first match since he was knocked out of Wimbledon, opting to skip all warm-up tournaments in North America. Djokovic is a four-time champion of the US Open.

Zachary Svajda will be tasked to face the seventh seed, Djokovic, in the second round. Svajda came through qualifying, where he did not drop a set and that pattern continued in the main draw, where he beat fellow qualifier Zsombor Piros in straight sets to pick up his second win at the US Open. Svajda won a seesaw first set in which neither player settled on serve, with seven breaks in total. But the American had the composure to hold when it counted to win it 6-4. From that moment, Svajda overwhelmed Piros with clean striking to take the second set 6-2 courtesy of a couple of breaks.

Svajda almost lost a massive lead in the third set when he went 5-2 up and had a match point on serve at 5-3 before he was broken back. But he sealed the match with a break of his own in the 12th game. It’s the first time he’s reached the second round of the US Open since 2021. Back then, his campaign was ended by Jannik Sinner. Svajda finished the match against Piros with 21 winners and 22 unforced errors. He accounted for 14 aces and one double fault. The 22-year-old landed 58% of first serves in play and won 80% of first serve points (39/49). Svajda won 33% of second serve points (12/36) and saved three of eight break points.

Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda Head-To-Head

Djokovic and Svajda have never met at any level.

Novak Djokovic vs Zachary Svajda Prediction

Djokovic should win here, but he still remains cold after his long absence. That only makes him slightly endangered in his movement and endurance, which appeared to be the case momentarily against Tien after only two sets. He’ll get better with more minutes on the match court, so Svajda might keep the score much more respectable, contrary to what the pre-match odds tell.
