Novak Djokovic extended his extraordinary Grand Slam record by winning his 400th match win at the majors. Djokovic is coming off a straight sets victory against Botic van de Zandschulp that took 32 games to decide. Djokovic prevailed 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in nearly three hours. He saved two set points in the third and went on to win the tiebreak on his second match point. In the victory, Djokovic hit 27 winners and 23 unforced errors. Jakub Mensik has reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open for the first time and will confront his idol Novak Djokovic, in their third career meeting. Mensik defeated an inspired Ethan Quinn in three tight sets to reach the second week in Melbourne. Mensik took the first set 6-2 in 34 minutes. The Czech trailed 2-5 in the second set, but recovered to level the set and won it in a tiebreak. Despite looking on course to victory when he led 3-1 in the third set, Mensik was broken back and needed another tiebreak to ease to victory.
Mensik fired 38 winners and 34 unforced errors in the victory, including 10 aces and 8 double faults. Mensik landed 50% of first serves in play and won 75% of first serve points (38/51). He won 57% of second serve points (29/51) and saved three of six break points. Before this round, Mensik beat Pablo Carreno Busta in five sets and Rafael Jodar in straight sets. This is officially his best Grand Slam run.
