Marie Bouzkova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Preview
Marie Bouzkova ended the best run of Croatian qualifier Antonia Ruzic in the quarterfinals. Their match took 17 games to decide and lasted 83 minutes. Bouzkova won the first set 6-3, breaking Ruzic at least three times. The Czech further dominated in the second set, racing to a 4-0 lead with a double break, and despite relinquishing one service game, Bouzkova broke Ruzic again to ease to the Monterrey semifinals.
In the victory, Bouzkova hit six aces and two double faults. She landed 59% of first serves in play and won 77% of first serve points (20/26). Bouzkova won 44% of second serve points (8/18) and saved one of three break points. Bouzkova will contest her second Monterrey semifinal. She was a finalist in this tournament back in 2020. Bouzkova had beaten Zeynep Sonmez and Beatriz Haddad Maia earlier in the tournament. She improves to 26-15 for the season and has won 10 of her last 11 matches.
Ekaterina Alexandrova ended the title reign of Linda Noskova to reach her second successive semifinal in Monterrey. Their match took 31 games to decide and lasted two hours and 18 minutes. Alexandrova won the first set in a tie-break, but was pegged back when she lost her momentum in the second set and was broken twice. After Noskova leveled, Alexandrova regained her composure in the third set, where she broke Noskova’s serve three times to wrap up a 7-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
Alexandrova hit two aces and two double faults in the match. She landed 74% of first serves in play and won 66% of first serve points (46/70). Alexandrova won 54% of second serve points (13/24) and saved three of seven break points. Alexandrova had earlier beaten Ajla Tomljanovic. She has won four of her last six matches on hard courts and is 34-17 overall for the season on all surfaces.
Marie Bouzkova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Head-To-Head
Bouzkova and Alexandrova have met once on the WTA level. Alexandrova won that meeting at the 2022 Madrid Open in three sets.
Marie Bouzkova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Prediction
This might be a bold call, but I’m giving Bouzkova the edge in this one. She’s certainly the player in form, with 10 wins from her last 11, including a title success at her home tournament in Prague. Bouzkova is a fantastic counterpuncher when she is consistent in terms of results, and she can smother Alexandrova’s flat-hitting aggression. Bouzkova is elite in keeping the ball deep and dragging out her opponents and if Alexandrova’s serve doesn’t quite hit its usual spots and gives away break points cheaply, Bouzkova can flip this match in her favor in the form she is in.
