Jakub Mensik vs Arthur Fils Preview
Jakub Mensik upset the second seed, Jannik Sinner, for the biggest win of his career by ranking. It’s the first time Sinner has lost in back-to-back events before the final since 2024, when he lost at Wimbledon and Montreal. Mensik edged the Italian in the opening set tiebreak after saving all four break points he faced. Sinner recovered to break the Czech twice in the second set and level the match at one-set all. But a loose game from Sinner at the start of the third set ceded all that momentum, and Mensik saw off a break back point in the next game to hold for 2-0. That mental edge was enough for Mensik to hold onto for the rest of the match, where he broke Sinner for a second time in the ninth game. Overall, Mensik hit 29 winners and 41 unforced errors, including 11 aces and 4 double faults. He landed 71% of first serves in play and won 82% of first serve points (49/60). Mensik won 36% of second serve points (9/25) and saved five of seven break points in the match.
Arthur Fils reached his first semifinal since he came back from a serious back injury. The Frenchman beat eighth seed Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to make the final four in Doha. Fils won two identical sets 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 31 minutes. In the victory, Fils hit 16 winners and 23 unforced errors. He accounted for 3 aces and not a single double fault.
Fils landed 69% of first serves in play and won 70% of first serve points (32/46). The World No. 40 won 38% of second serve points (8/21) and saved four of six break points. Fils has only lost one set this week, and that came in his opening match against Kamil Majchrzak. He had beaten Quentin Halys before this.
