Iva Jovic vs Sofia Kenin Preview
Iva Jovic registered her first win in Charleston on Wednesday, defeating fellow American Alycia Parks in straight sets. Their match took 17 games to decide and lasted an hour and 36 minutes. Jovic’s debut in Charleston started nervously as she got broken in the opening game. But she quickly regained her stillness and broke straight back in the next game and went on to lead 3-1 when she broke Parks for a second time. The 18-year-old saved five more break points in a long fifth game to hold before she eventually saw out the set 6-3. Jovic played with much more efficiency in the second set as she controlled the match to wrap up a 6-3, 6-2 win in under two hours. In the victory, Jovic hit 1 ace and 3 double faults. She landed 58% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (25/37). Jovic won 59% of second serve points (16/27) and saved eight of nine break points in the match. Jovic is now 18-6 on clay in her young career.
Sofia Kenin registered just her second win of 2026, beating Bianca Andreescu in the second round of Charleston. She was winless since the opening day of the new season and lost her last eight matches. But Kenin, who is defending runner-up points this week, knew the importance of turning her season around this week in Charleston to remain in the top 50.
And the former World No. 4 did just that as she completed a 6-4, 6-4 masterclass over a rejuvenated Andreescu. In the victory, Kenin hammered 2 aces and landed 67% of first serves in play. Kenin won 76% of first serve points (32/42) and 43% of second serve points (9/21). Kenin saved four of five break points.
