Top seed Iga Swiatek will face World No. 110 Yuan Yue in the second round of the 2025 China Open in Beijing. The match is scheduled for Saturday, September 27. Here’s our Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue prediction. This preview will also include an Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue pick.

Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue Preview

In the absence of Aryna Sabalenka, who withdrew from the tournament, Iga Swiatek is the top seed at the China Open. The Pole is making her second appearance in Beijing and first since 2023, where she won the title with the loss of one set during the event. Swiatek missed the China Open last year due to a suspension from the tour.

Swiatek had the best start to the Asian swing this month. She won her third title of the season at the Korea Open in Seoul, winning a dramatic three-set final against Ekaterina Alexandrova last weekend. She’s now the WTA player with the most wins on tour this season with 57. Swiatek has only lost 13 matches this season. She has won 15 of her last 17 matches on hard courts, losing only to Clara Tauson in Canada and Amanda Anisimova at the US Open.

Yuan Yue is unseeded and began the tournament in her home country with a good win over Yulia Putintseva in the first round. Yue wrapped up victory in an hour and 21 minutes in a match that took 18 games to decide.

Yue won the first set 6-3 with two breaks of serve and was 3 out of 3 in break points saved on her serve. The 27-year-old was clinical in the second set too, breaking Putintseva once towards the end of the set and serving successfully for a spot in the second round. Yue finished the match with four aces and won 68% of first serve points (28/41). She saved all six break points she faced.

Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue Head-To-Head

Swiatek and Yue have never met at any level before this.

Iga Swiatek vs Yuan Yue Prediction

Yue snapped a four-match losing run dating back to the Cincinnati Open, and she did so in some style, saving all six break points she faced against a veteran player like Putintseva. But the Kazakh had been struggling for confidence for a while, and Yue couldn’t have picked a more ideal match to end her losing streak. That said, she’s unlikely to progress past the second round. She’s lost twice in this stage in Beijing and facing the top-seeded Swiatek, who just won a title this past weekend, is the toughest draw imaginable.
