In the absence of Aryna Sabalenka, who withdrew from the tournament, Iga Swiatek is the top seed at the China Open. The Pole is making her second appearance in Beijing and first since 2023, where she won the title with the loss of one set during the event. Swiatek had the best start to the Asian swing this month. The 27-year-old was clinical in the second set too, breaking Putintseva once towards the end of the set and serving successfully for a spot in the second round. Yue finished the match with four aces and won 68% of first serve points (28/41). She saved all six break points she faced.
