Elena Rybakina vs Yulia Putintseva Preview
Elena Rybakina enters the Miami Open on the back of a runner-up finish in Indian Wells, where she was a point away from winning the tournament. Rybakina lost out to rival Aryna Sabalenka in an epic final, squandering a late match point in the contest. That said, it was a brilliant week from the Kazakh big server who notched a couple more top ten wins during the event against Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina before her recent perfect record against top 10 came to a halt against Sabalenka.Rybakina is now 17-4 for the season. She won her second Grand Slam title at this year’s Australian Open and was a quarterfinalist in Brisbane and Doha. Rybakina has a great track record in Miami, reaching two finals in back-to-back years, but lost in the second round to Ashlyn Krueger last season.
Yulia Putintseva secured a first-round win over Janice Tjen this week, rallying from a set down to prevail 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 6 minutes. In the victory, Putintseva hit 2 aces and landed 84% of first serves in play. Putintseva won 65% of first serve points (45/69) and 62% of second serve points (8/13). She saved four of six break points in the match.
Putintseva is making her 10th main draw appearance at the Miami Open, stretching back to 2013. Her best run was a quarterfinal finish in 2024, but like Rybakina, she lost in the second round last season to Taylor Townsend. Putintseva improves to 10-6 for the season.
