Daria Snigur scored a shock win over Tereza Valentova to reach her first WTA Tour level final. Snigur defeated rising Czech star Valentova 7-6, 6-3 in an hour and 52 minutes. Snigur trailed on two occasions in the first set, but managed to break back each time before prevailing in the tiebreak. This is officially her best season, having notched her 40th win at all levels and will break into the top 50 next week.
Lilli Tagger has announced herself as a future star of women’s tennis after upsetting two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova in the second semifinal. The fall of Krejcikova means there won’t be a home player in the final at the Prague Open. Tagger battled from a set down to beat Krejcikova 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 in nearly three hours in quite easily the match of the tournament.
In the victory, Tagger hit 12 aces and committed 2 double faults. Tagger landed 61% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (47/62). Tagger won 69% of second serve points (27/39) and saved one of three break points on her serve. This will be Tagger’s first Tour level final, having not gone past the quarters before this week.
