Sorana Cirstea is playing the final Miami Open of her career after announcing her decision to retire at the end of the season. The 35-year-old Romanian has won three matches to reach the last 16 in a tournament she famously made the semifinals back in 2023. In the opening round, Cirstea beat Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-4 in 71 minutes.
Cirstea faced stern resistance in the second round, but secured a brilliant victory over 14th seed Linda Noskova in three sets. In the third round, Cirstea knocked out 21st seed Elise Mertens 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 19 minutes. Cirstea improves to 17-4 for the season.
