Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova Preview
Coco Gauff reached her first-ever semifinal at the Miami Open and she did it the hard way as she battled past Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals. The match took 25 games to decide and lasted two hours and 15 minutes. Gauff recovered from a break deficit in the final set to prevail 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. In the victory, Gauff hit 6 aces and 5 double faults. She landed 58% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (34/45). Gauff won 33% of second serve points (11/33) and saved one of five break points in the match.
Gauff improves to 15-5 for the season. Before this round, she beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Alycia Parks and Sorana Cirstea. Each of her four matches in the fortnight has gone the distance. Gauff has not reached a single final this season and will bid to end that streak in Miami when she plays Karolina Muchova.
Muchova, for her part, defeated Victoria Mboko for the second time this season. In a rematch of the Doha final, the result remained the same as Muchova edged out the young Canadian in two tight sets to progress. The first set lasted 49 minutes. Muchova broke serve in the 11th game and converted her third set point to win the set 7-5.
Neither player lost serve in the second set and Muchova fended off a late set point on her serve to hold for 5-all. Eventually, the set was decided in a tiebreak, and Muchova dominated to clinch victory in an hour and 48 minutes. Muchova improves to 18-3 for the season and is chasing her second final of the season.
