Casper Ruud and Juan Manuel Cerundolo meet in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Gstaad Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 18. Here’s our Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo prediction. This preview will also include a Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo pick.

Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo Preview
Casper Ruud is the top seed at the Gstaad Open. He’s the only Top 15 player competing in the Swiss city this week as he aims to return to form. Ruud is ranked 13th in the world rankings and missed the third Grand Slam of the season at Wimbledon because of a knee injury. But there were no concerns when he returned to action this week and won his opening match against local wild card Dominic Stricker in straight sets. Ruud won the opening set 7-5 in 49 minutes. He recovered from a break deficit and won four of the next five games from 3-4 down.

The second set was equally tight with Stricker pushing the Norwegian into a tie-break. Ruud saved a couple of set points at 4-6 down in the breaker, which he won it 8-6. Ruud finished the match with nine aces and two double faults. He landed 62% of first serves in play and won 80% of first serve points (37/46). Ruud won 61% of second serve points (17/28) and saved one of two break points in the match. This was his 14th win from 18 matches on clay. Ruud has one title this season, winning his first Masters 1000 in Madrid in early May. He has now won two and lost two of his last four matches. Ruud is seeking a third career title in Gstaad, having won the tournament twice in back-to-back years (2021 and 2022).

World No. 109 Juan Manuel Cerundolo beat Belgium’s David Goffin in three sets to reach the Gstaad Open quarterfinal. Goffin won the first set 7-5 in 48 minutes, needing four set points to close it out. Cerundolo hit back to take the second set 6-4, with just one break the difference between them. In the third set, Goffin lost his serve in the opening game and Cerundolo consolidated for a 3-1 lead. He broke again and consolidated again for a 5-1 lead. In the seventh game, he needed two bites to break Goffin for a third time and seal the comeback win. Cerundolo also won his opening match in three sets against Jan-Lennard Struff. It is his first quarterfinal on the ATP Tour this season. Cerundolo has won six of his last matches at all levels. He improves to 35-16 on clay this year.

Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo Prediction
For his first match in almost two months, Ruud performed very well against a tricky lefty in Stricker. And that could help to tolerate the younger Cerundolo’s depth and stamina if this match stretched beyond two sets. In the end, I fancy Ruud to wear him down with his heavy topspin and he’s got a fine record in Gstaad. He hasn’t lost a match in his two previous visits.

Nur Said's Pick: Casper Ruud in three sets
