Top seed and World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will face World No. 45 Zizou Bergs in the second round of the 2025 Japan Open in Tokyo. The match is scheduled for Saturday, September 27. Here’s our Carlos Alcaraz vs Zizou Bergs prediction. This preview will also include a Carlos Alcaraz vs Zizou Bergs pick.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Zizou Bergs Preview

Carlos Alcaraz’s Japan Open debut almost ended in horror as the Spaniard suffered a mid-match injury before he cruised to victory over Sebastian Baez. Alcaraz twisted his ankle in the early goings of the first set when the match was on level terms, but received treatment from the physio and was cleared to carry on.

Alcaraz went on to clinch a tight first set 6-4 before the match was interrupted by rain. Upon resumption, Alcaraz played a complete second set, breaking Baez twice to wrap up a 6-4, 6-2 win in an hour and 21 minutes. Alcaraz hit three aces and two double faults in the victory. He landed 77% of first serves in play and won 72% of first serve points (31/43). Alcaraz won 38% of second serve points (5/13) and saved five of 13 break points in the match.

Zizou Bergs is also making his debut in Tokyo and defeated Chengdu champion Alejandro Tabilo in a thrilling three-set match. After losing the first set 6-1 in under half an hour, Bergs recovered from an early break in the second set, which he won in a tie-break after an hour and two minutes. The third set was equally as tight, lasting an hour and 14 minutes and Bergs once more prevailed in another tiebreak.

Bergs finished the match with 12 aces and three double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 72% of first serve points (43/60). Bergs won 55% of second serve points (23/42) and saved two of five break points.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Zizou Bergs Prediction

We are yet to get confirmation if Alcaraz will play this match, although he said he would be working to get fit during his day off after twisting his ankle. Alcaraz’s comments might give Bergs a bit of hope. This might not be a lost cause for the Belgian who despite the odds being stacked against him will surely be considered to run him close. Alcaraz has lost sets before when not operating at full throttle, and the ankle he injured in his opening match might be sore even before his next match.
