Andreescu enters the 2026 Charleston Open as a wild card. She is ranked 140th in the WTA rankings. This will be her debut appearance in Charleston in this WTA 500 event as she begins her clay-court preparations for the European Swing in April and May. 

So far, Andreescu has played 23 matches since returning to action in January. This is a very healthy return and numbers considering she played just 25 times in the whole of 2025. Andreescu marked her return to action at the ITF level, a decision that took many by surprise. But the former US Open needed to find rhyhtm and regain her confidence and competing on the lower tiers gave her that platform against comparatively lower-ranked opponents.

She won a couple of titles, one of those was on clay in Vera Beach. She also made the final of the WTA 125K in Austin losing out to Lanlana Tararudee. Her last appearance was in Miami where she fell in the qualifying rounds.

Dalma Galfi enters the 2026 WTA Charleston Open ranked 84th in the WTA rankings. Galfi has been ranked as high as 79th. This will be her second appearance in this WTA 500 level event on green clay. She lost in the opening round to Irina-Camelia Begu back in 2023. Last year, Galfi posted a 24-8 record on clay, and lifting a couple of titles.

Galfi has played 15 matches in 2026 so far ahead of the clay-court swing. She has compiled 6 wins and 9 losses. Although wins have been scarce, one of those was against Andreescu at the WTA 250 event in Austin, Texas, where she won a tight one in three sets. Galfi’s last appearance was in Miami where she lost in the opening round to Elvina Kalieva in three sets.

Andreescu is an underrated clay-court player and she has beaten some decent names on this surface and her game suits the slow grind. She can mix it up and play defense in a very efficient way. Galfi on clay is no slouch, but I trust Andreescu to dig deep and find the answers that she often lacked in their clash in Austin which was extremely close.
