Ben Shelton faces Alexander Blockx in the second round of the Munich Open. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15. Here’s our Ben Shelton vs Alexander Blockx prediction. This preview will also include a Ben Shelton vs Alexander Blockx pick.

Ben Shelton vs Alexander Blockx Preview

Ben Shelton is the second seed at the Munich Open. Last year, he reached the final on his debut and lost to Alexander Zverev. Shelton kicked off the tournament with a three-set win over countryman Emilio Nava. Shelton edged out Nava in the first set tiebreak, in which neither player dropped their serve. But it was Nava who was the first to break midway through the second set to lead 4-2. And just a couple of games later, Nava brought the match on level terms 6-3.

Nava carried that momentum into the decider, where he broke Shelton again in the opening game. But Shelton quickly found his level to break back and the American lefty broke decisively again in the sixth game to take control of the match. Shelton eventually prevailed 6-3 in the third. In the victory, he hammered 14 aces and 6 double faults. He won 76% of first serve points (39/51) and saved three of five break points.

Alexander Blockx is making his debut at the Munich Open, ranked 71st in the rankings. He is coming off a straight-sets win over Yannick Hanfmann. The match took 21 games to decide. Blockx won the first set after 59 minutes in a tiebreak, which he dominated 7-2. Hanfmann dropped his serve twice in the second set as Blockx wrapped up a one-sided second set 6-2.

In the victory, Blockx hit 3 aces and 2 double faults. He won landed 67% of first serves in play and won 83% of first serve points (34/41). Blockx won 70% of second serve points (14/20) and did not face a single break point.

Ben Shelton vs Alexander Blockx Head-To-Head

Shelton and Blockx have never played before, so this will be their first career meeting.

Ben Shelton vs Alexander Blockx Preview

Blockx is in great form, having just beaten some top names in Monte Carlo in his breakout run on clay at tour level. He’s got a huge serve and he was not broken in his opening match in Munich. Shelton hasn’t really settled on clay yet, but his variety and power make up for that rustiness. And because I don’t see many service breaks, Blockx might make this uncomfortable for Shelton, dragging at least a set into the 7-6 or 7-5 territory.

Nur Said's Pick: Blockx +3.5 games handicap
