Aryna Sabalenka vs Diana Shnaider Preview
Aryna Sabalenka beat fellow four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka to reach the quarterfinals of the 2026 French Open. In the first women’s night session match at Roland Garros in three years, it was Sabalenka who came out on the winning side as she knocked out Osaka in straight sets. That said, the match was highly competitive, especially the first set, where both women broke each other’s serve to start things off. But Sabalenka made her move in the 11th game when she created two more break points and converted one of those. She held to love in the next game to win the set 7-5. The second set stayed on serve for the first six games before Sabalenka broke Osaka twice to seal a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Sabalenka accounted for 39 winners and 27 unforced errors in the match. That included 12 aces and 3 double faults. Sabalenka landed 64% of first serves in play and won 83% of first serve points (29/35). Sabalenka won 55% of second serve points (11/20) and was only broken once. It’s her fourth straight quarterfinal at the French Open.
Joining her will in the last eight at the French Open will be Diana Shnaider. The 25th seed beat former Australian Open champion Madison Keys in three sets. The two exchanged the first two sets by identical score 6-3, 3-6. But Shnaider blitzed past the American in the decider 6-0 in under half an hour.
In the victory, Shnaider hit 17 winners and 26 unforced errors. She landed 73% of first serves in play and won 60% of first serve points (33/55). Shnaider won 65% of second serve points (13/20) and saved 7 of 10 break points on her serve. Before this, Shnaider had beaten Zarazua, Kessler and Oliynykova without the loss of a set. This is her first-ever quarterfinal at the French Open.
