Dominika Salkova vs Chloe Paquet Preview
Dominika Salkova won a thrilling opening match in Angers against Belgian wild card Jeline Vandromme in two hours and 32 minutes. The match took 34 games to decide. Salkova was a break up in the opening set and had two set points, which Vandromme saved on her serve to hold for 5-all. Salkova dropped her serve thereafter, and Vandromme expertly held to snatch the first set 7-5.Salkova’s response in the second set was efficient as she broke Vandromme’s serve twice and went on to win the set 6-3. The Czech had a double break at the start of the third set, leading 3-0, but quickly lost that advantage as Vandromme won four straight games to restore parity. A tiebreak would eventually settle things and it was Salkova who pinched a late mini break to win the match 7-5.
There was no such drama in Chloe Paquet’s first-round win against Lucia Bronzetti. The Frenchwoman was a +150 pre-match underdog and even lost the first set 7-5 in 55 minutes to the much-fancied Bronzetti. But she only dropped two games in the next two sets as she turned the match on its head.
Paquet won 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 for her 20th victory of the season at all levels. She will bid to reach the quarterfinals for a second time. The last time she made the last eight was in 2023, when she finished runner-up.
