Andrey Rublev and Aleksandar Kovacevic meet in the semifinal of the 2025 Los Cabos Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 18. Here’s our Andrey Rublev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic prediction. This preview will also include an Andrey Rublev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic pick.
Andrey Rublev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Preview
Andrey Rublev is the top seed at the 2025 Los Cabos Open, making his debut at this ATP 250 event. Rublev has reached the semifinals with a couple of victories this week. He got a bye in the first round as a seeded player. In the second round, the hard-hitting Russian beat home wild card Alex Hernandez in straight sets. He won 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes. Rublev hit 11 aces and six double faults. He landed 52% of first serves and won 92% of first serve points (22/24). Rublev only faced one break point, which he saved.
In the quarterfinals, Rublev took out American World No. 123 Emilio Nava in three sets. Rublev lost the first set 7-5 despite leading 4-1. But things were all square when Rublev recovered from a break deficit in the second set, winning four games in a row at 2-4 down. The World No. 10 was the only one to break in the deciding set, which he won 6-3. Rublev hit five aces and four double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (37/49). He failed to save any of the three break points he faced. This is Rublev’s first semifinal on a hard court since he won the ATP 500 in Doha earlier this season.
Aleksandar Kovacevic is ranked 76th in the ATP rankings. He started the tournament in Los Cabos, where he was making his third appearance, with a gutsy three-set win over Hady Habib. The match lasted an hour and 50 minutes, with Kovacevic recovering from a second-set blip to win 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. In the second round, Kovacevic defeated home player Alvarez Valdes 7-5, 6-4 in an hour and 36 minutes. He broke serve four times and hit 25 winners. But he won’t be pleased with 40 unforced errors against a player ranked outside the Top 500.
In the quarterfinal, Kovacevic saw off Argentina’s Juan Pablo Ficovich 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 20 minutes. It was his most impressive performance of the week. Kovacevic hit 23 winners and 29 unforced errors in the match. He landed 51% of first serves in play and won 81% of first serve points (21/26). Kovacevic saved three of four break points. After two quarterfinal losses in Los Cabos, this will be Kovacevic’s first semifinal appearance at the event.
Andrey Rublev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Head-To-Head
Kovacevic stunned Rublev in their only ATP meeting earlier this season in the semifinals of Montpellier. The American reached his first ATP final that week as a qualifier.
Andrey Rublev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Prediction
Rublev will be eyeing revenge against Kovacevic, who upset him in Montpellier earlier this season. The outdoor conditions in Los Cabos will heavily favor Rublev, who would have been the favorite anyway, regardless of the surface, to hit through the American relentlessly. I’m going with the top seed to get this done in two sets.
