The Line: Betting Odds: Ana Bogdan / Varvara Gracheva (to be updated)
Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva meet in the first round of the 2025 Iasi Open. The match is scheduled for Monday, July 14. Here’s our Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva prediction. This preview will also include an Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva pick.
Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva Preview
Ana Bogdan has received a wild card to compete in her home tournament at the Iasi Open. This tournament was introduced on the calendar in 2022 as a WTA 125K, and Bogdan became a two-time singles champion in consecutive seasons. Last year, Bogdan did not play in Iasi when the event was upgraded to become part of the WTA 250 category.
But in 2025, Bogdan will return looking to win her first WTA Tour-level title. If it is to happen, this would be a fitting place. Bogdan is known to put in strong performances in front of the Romanian crowd. She has played 15 times this season. Bogdan has won just six matches and lost nine times. She has one win in her last four and is coming off a second-round qualifying loss to Zakharova at Wimbledon. Bogdan’s most recent appearance on home soil was in Cluj-Napoca earlier this year, where she beat Jodie Burrage in her opener before losing to Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round. Bogdan is currently ranked outside the Top 200. She has a 2-5 record on clay this season, with both wins coming at the 125K level.
Varvara Gracheva is ranked 92nd in the WTA rankings. Gracheva is a former Top 40 player. She has posted a 17-19 record this season. Gracheva has won eight of 15 matches on clay. Her best result was reaching the semifinal of the WTA 125K in Paris.
Gracheva took part in the grass swing last month. She reached the semifinals of the WTA 250 in Eastbourne as a qualifier and lost to Alexandra Eala. At Wimbledon, Gracheva lost in the opening round to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. She has since played in a clay-court tournament this month. That was the Contrexville 125 and made the quarters there. Gracheva will make her Iasi main draw debut.
Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva Head-To-Head
Bogdan and Gracheva have met four times. Gracheva leads the head-to-head 3-1, although two of those victories are classified as retirements. Bogdan retired after only four games in their last meeting at the Paris 125K last year. The Romanian’s only victory was in Limoges, but that was four years ago.
Ana Bogdan vs Varvara Gracheva Prediction
Bogdan is a fighter and will do everything to put in a good performance in front of her home crowd. But form and ranking justify where her game is at right now, and she’s clearly entering a rapid decline phase. Gracheva is not having the best of seasons, with 19 losses already, a huge number with half of the season gone. But she has at least gotten to double digits in the winners column. The Frenchwoman has also already accumulated minutes after Wimbledon and on clay, and I do expect her to take charge of proceedings in this match. Give me Gracheva in straight sets.
