Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko meet in the second round of the 2025 Gstaad Open. The match is scheduled for Thursday, July 17. Here’s our Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko prediction. This preview will also include an Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko pick.

Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko Preview
Alexander Bublik is the second seed at the Gstaad Open. Bublik is ranked 34th in the world rankings, which is double his previous career-high ranking on the ATP Tour. The Kazakh is competing in Gstaad for the first time, opting to pick up points and make up for a mediocre Wimbledon campaign where he surprisingly lost in the first round to Jaume Munar in five sets. It was a shocking loss for Bublik, who came into the third Grand Slam of the season as a dark horse. He had won one of the ATP 500 tournaments in Halle, which was perfect preparation for him on grass, considering it is a surface that Bublik maximizes his key strengths.

But as it stands, the French Open is Bulbik’s best Grand Slam result of the year, which is another bizarre achievement since he had a negative win-loss record on clay in each of the last four years. Bublik has won 15 matches on the dirt this season, which is his personal best return at Tour level, and can add to that number this week, where he is the second-highest ranked player in the draw. Bublik has won nine of his last 11 matches in all competitions. His two defeats in that time came against Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros and Jaume Munar at Wimbledon. He received a bye in the first round in Gstaad.

Alexander Shevchenko is coming off a first-round win over Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka. Shevchenko played exceptionally well to outhit three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka and pick up a 6-3, 6-2 victory. The match lasted just 75 minutes. Shevchenko hit seven aces and only two double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 79% of first serve points (30/38). Shevchenko won 62% of second serve points (16/26) and saved all five break points he faced in the match. The win was Shevchenko’s first on the ATP Tour since the 2025 French Open in May. He improves his clay-court record to 17-14, snapping a three-match losing streak in the process. Shevchenko will seek his first Tour level quarterfinal of the season.

Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko Head-To-Head
Bublik and Shevchenko have met once on the ATP Tour. Bublik won their only meeting at the 2024 Montpellier Open in three sets. Bublik completed a historic week in France, winning the ATP 250 tournament.

Alexander Bublik vs Alexander Shevchenko Prediction
There is huge value on the underdog here, as Shevchenko starts the all-Kazakh clash at +150. He produced an excellent attacking display against Wawrinka to win in straight sets, saving all five break points in the match. Bublik has been in good form this year and surprised many people at the French Open, but this feels like an odd selection in his schedule when he might have prioritized playing on hard courts. So, it does make me question his choice of playing in Gstaad.

Nur Said's Pick: Alexander Shevchenko in three sets
