Alexander Blockx will face Luca Van Assche in the Estoril Open final on Sunday, July 26th. Both men will play in their first ATP Tour final and will clash in their second career meeting. Here’s our Alexander Blockx vs Luca Van Assche prediction. This preview will include an Alexander Blockx vs Luca Van Assche pick.

Alexander Blockx vs Luca Van Assche Preview

Alexander Block beat the tournament’s top seed, Luciano Darderi, to reach his first Tour-level final at the Estoril Open. Blockx lost the first set 5-7, despite having the opportunity to serve for it at 5-4. But he recovered from 2-5 down in the second set to level the match in a tiebreak. But there was no shortage of drama in the third set. Blockx twice came back from the brink of defeat. He was a break down at the start of the third set. Darderi led 4-2 on his serve, then 4-1 in the deciding tiebreak, but the Italian could not finish off the Next Gen star. Blockx prevailed 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 after two hours and 45 minutes.

In the victory, Blockx hit 8 aces and committed 6 double faults. Blockx landed 59% of first serves in play and won 74% of first serve points (53/72). He won 44% of second serve points (22/50) and saved 8 out of 14 break points on his serve. Each of Blockx’s three matches at the Estoril Open has gone the distance. He saved two match points in the second round.

Luca Van Assche will also play in his first ATP Tour final. Van Assche beat fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston in straight sets to reach the Estoril Open final. The match took 22 games to decide. Van Assche prevailed 6-4, 7-5 in under two hours. Van Assche needed two attempts to serve for the match late in the second set, but got the job done to ease into the title match.

In the victory over Gaston, Van Assche hit 2 aces and committed 5 double faults. Van Assche landed 51% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (26/38). Van Assche won 64% of second serve points (23/36) and saved three of four break points on his serve. Van Assche scored the biggest upset of the week by knocking out top seed Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.

Alexander Blockx vs Luca Van Assche Head-To-Head

Blockx and Van Assche have played once on the Challenger Tour. The Frenchman beat Blockx 6-2, 6-4 to win the Lille Challenger final back in February this season.

Alexander Blockx vs Luca Van Assche Prediction

Their second head-to-head meeting is also a final. Van Assche took out the Belgian to win the Lille Challenger earlier this season, and although he starts as the heavy underdog, he’s the value pick in the Estoril final. Blockx delivered one of the biggest shocks in the semis by beating a red-hot Darderi, but clay is still not his natural surface. And what is particularly fascinating is that, when they played indoors on hard courts, Van Assche totally outplayed Blockx to win the tournament. Van Assche has advanced to the Estoril final without the physical toll that Blockx endured in his dramatic semifinal and in the two matches before that. I think Van Assche is well placed to capture his first ATP title.
