World No. 13 Alex de Minaur will face French lucky loser Corentin Moutet in the semifinal of the 2025 Washington Open. The match is scheduled for Saturday, July 26. Here’s our Alex De Minaur vs Corentin Moutet prediction. This preview will also include an Alex De Minaur vs Corentin Moutet pick.
Alex De Minaur vs Corentin Moutet Preview
Alex De Minaur progressed to the Washington semifinals for the first time since 2018. De Minaur beat World No. 32 Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in an hour and 36 minutes. In the victory, De Minaur compiled 21 winners to 17 unforced errors, and that included six aces and two double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 67% of first serve points (26/39).
De Minaur won 59% of second serve points (16/27) and saved three of five break points. Before that, De Minaur had seen off Yunchaokete Bu in straight sets and Jiri Lehecka in three sets. He had lost in the second round in each of his last three visits to the Citi Open, although he was a finalist on his debut seven years ago. De Minaur has a 19-6 record on hard courts this season and will look to reach his second final of the year (he lost his only final to Carlos Alcaraz in Rotterdam). De Minaur can move back into the top 10 with a win and could rise as high as 8th with a title win.
Corentin Moutet entered the 2025 Washington Open as a lucky loser after losing in the second round of qualifying. He’s been unstoppable since, beating countryman Alexandre Muller in the opening round and former champion Dan Evans in the subsequent round in the main draw. That earned him an unlikely quarterfinal berth against former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. Moutet lost the first set 6-1 in 24 minutes, but the crowd did not expect what was to unfold.
Medvedev completely capitulated, dropping his serve twice in the second set and serving three double faults. Moutet levelled the match. In the third set, Moutet played clutch tennis to save multiple break points in the fifth and seventh games and would break Medvedev in the 10th game and on his third match point to pull off the upset with one of the most ridiculous finishes to a point. Victory takes him to the semifinal of a hard-court tournament for the first time this season and is now 10-5 on the surface.
Alex De Minaur vs Corentin Moutet Head-To-Head
De Minaur and Moutet have not not played on the ATP Tour but met once on the Challenger Tour in 2016. De Minaur won the match in straight sets on an indoor hard court.
Alex De Minaur vs Corentin Moutet Prediction
It’s very easy to overreact here with Moutet completing a big upset over Medvedev in the quarterfinals. He’s still a player who is broadly inconsistent, which is why De Minaur is far more trustworthy in these high-pressure situations and can deal with the Frenchman’s tactical sharpness should he take him out of his comfort zone. De Minaur can fight fire with fire in this one, with his court speed sure to negate whatever Moutet will throw at him in the form of short balls and all those wicked slices and drop shots.
