Danielle Collins and Tatjana Maria meet in the first round of the 2025 WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Here's our Danielle Collins vs Tatjana Maria prediction. This preview will also include a Danielle Collins vs Tatjana Maria pick.

Danielle Collins Preview

Danielle Collins was unsuccessful in defending her titles in Miami and Charleston and had dropped out of the Top 30. But Collins put in a valiant effort, losing each time to the eventual champion of the two events (Sabalenka and Pegula), so she won't be massively disappointed. Collins has compiled a 7-5 record for the season and has only competed in five tournaments since January. Her only first-round defeat was in Adelaide during the Australian swing when she lost to Ons Jabeur.

Collins will be appearing in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart for the first time, opting to skip the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying event. Last year, Collins compiled a 19-5 record on clay, reaching the quarterfinals or better in four events. She was a runner-up in Strasbourg and a semifinalist in Rome.

Tatjana Maria Preview

Tatjana Maria is ranked 81st in the WTA rankings. She has recorded a 13-11 win-loss tally at all levels this season. Maria won a W100 title in Bangalore in January and reached two quarterfinals in the last few weeks. The first one was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, at the end of March, and the other was in Bogota, Colombia, where she kicked off her clay-court campaign. Like Collins, Maria lost those two tournaments to players who went on to win the title (Cristian and Osorio).

Maria had a 7-12 record on clay last season. The 37-year-old was in action this past weekend, where she represented Germany at the Billie Jean King Cup. But she lost to singles matches to Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands and Katie Boulter of Great Britain. Her country did not qualify for the Finals.

Danielle Collins vs Tatjana Maria Head-To-Head

• Collins and Maria have met three times at all levels. The American holds a 100% winning record (3-0) and last beat the German at the 2019 French Open in straight sets.

Danielle Collins vs Tatjana Maria Prediction

Maria brings a heavy slice and funky spin that make her such a nightmare to play against that even the most experienced names in the sport have to adjust to weird patterns of play and shot-making. That's what Collins will expect here, which is to ensure her power is on point and suffocate Maria with it because she will be seeing some awkward bounces. And on indoor clay in Stuttgart, aside from thing being the German's home court, Maria's game is even trickier to handle. But I trust Collins to deal with that low ball and put Maria on the defensive for the whole match.

Nur’s Pick Danielle Collins in straight sets
