But a mix of errors from the Frenchman and Alcaraz's ability to hold his nerve meant that the Spaniard escaped with a hold and would break for the set moments later. Alcaraz also rallied from a break deficit in the third set.
In the victory, Alcaraz hit 18 winners and 41 unforced errors, including three aces and seven double faults. Alcaraz landed 61% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (43/62). He won 49% of second serve points (19/39) and saved seven of 11 breakpoints. Alcaraz tallied 44% of return points (45/103) and broke Fils five times in the match. This will be his first semifinal appearance in Monte Carlo.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Preview
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is back in the Monte Carlo semifinals for the second time in his career. He defeated Australia's Alexei Popyrin with a composed performance to get there. The unseeded Spaniard won 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 10 minutes.
In the victory, Davidovich Fokina hit 11 winners and 13 unforced errors. He accounted for one ace. Davidovich Fokina landed 68% of first serves in play and won 81% of first serve points (26/32). Davidovich Fokina compiled 73% of second serve points (11/15) and did not face a breakpoint on his serve. He won 44% of return points (25/57) and all four net points and broke Popyrin three times. Davidovich Fokina has reached one final at this level, and it was in Monte Carlo back in 2022.

His mental fortitude has stood out and once again he remains the man to beat at this year's European clay swing.
The surface makes him such a tough proposition, and Alcaraz has weathered the storm despite missing his usual spark. Davidovich Fokina is as unpredictable as they come, and his shot selection is stellar when his game is firing on all cylinders. But his best still falls a level or two below Alcaraz's ferocious and frenetic brand of tennis. I expect the second seed to clutch it out again.
