Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Alexei Popyrin meet in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters on Friday, April 11, 2025. Here's our Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Alexei Popyrin prediction. This preview will also include an Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Alexei Popyrin pick.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Preview
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina upset fifth seed and Indian Wells champion Jack Draper on Thursday to make the last egith in Monte Carlo. The Spaniard clinched a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 victory in almost three hours of play. It will be his first quarterfinal at the event since his runner-up finish four years ago.
Davidovich Fokina hit 30 winners and 57 unforced errors en route to victory. He landed 63% of first serves in play and won 59% of first serve points (44/74). Davidovich Fokina won 59% of second serve points (26/44) and saved 12 of 16 breakpoints. The former finalist compiled 44% of return points (43/98) and broke Draper's serve six times. Davidovich Fokina improves to 17-8 for the season. He's reached two finals already this year; let's see if he can go all the way this week.
Alexei Popyrin Preview
Alexei Popyrin has also exceeded expectations this week after taking down fourth seed Casper Ruud. The match took 31 games to decide and lasted three hours. Popyrin prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, despite trailing 3-5 in the third set and had to save two match points. In the victory, Popyrin hit 48 winners and 45 unforced errors, including four aces and five double faults. Popyrin landed 62% of first serves in play and won 74% of first serve points (54/73). He won 43% of second serve points (19/44) and saved 12 of 14 breakpoints in the match.
Popyrin tallied 38% of return points (47/123) and broke Ruud three times, crucially when the Norwegian served for the match. Popyrin is through to only his second Masters 1000 quarterfinal. The one time he made it this far, he won the tournament (Canada 2024).

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Alexei Popyrin Prediction
Davidovich Fokina starts as a favorite here at -200, and I'd have to disagree. Popyrin deserves immense credit for getting this far, including beating Ruud (a player built for this surface) in these slow conditions on clay, which was almost unfathomable before the match. This match could come down to whoever handles fatigue better. They were both involved in brutal three-set three-hour matches in the last round. I really like the look of Popyrin, whose lethal mix of aggression and accuracy is causing too many problems for attacking players, and Davidovich Fokina's recent track record of buckling under sustained pressure might give the Aussie an edge.
