Daniel Altmaier and Richard Gasquet meet in the second round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Here's our Daniel Altmaier vs Richard Gasquet prediction. This preview will also include a Daniel Altmaier vs Richard Gasquet pick.
Daniel Altmaier Preview
Daniel Altmaier upset 16th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to reach the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters. The match took 22 games to decide. Altmaier prevailed 7-6, 6-3 in two hours and two minutes. In the victory, Altmaier hit 23 winners and 7 unforced errors. Altmaier accounted six aces.
The German one hander landed 63% of first serves in play and won 74% of first serve points (37/50). Altmaier won 38% of second serve points (11/29) and saved six of nine breakpoints. He won 43% of return points (30/70) and broke the Canadian four times. Altmaier improves from last year's first-round exit in this tournament. He came through qualifying, beating Jaume Munar and Pierre Hugues Herbert. Altmaier is now 13-13 for the season and improves to 3-1 on clay.
Richard Gasquet Preview
Richard Gasquet defeated Italy's Matteo Arnaldi in three sets to reach the second round in Monte Carlo. In his final appearance at the event he earned his maiden ATP win over two decades ago, Gasquet played some gutsy tennis to secure an unlikely victory last Sunday.
The match took 29 games to decide, with Gasquet toppling Arnaldi 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in two and a half hours. Gasquet hit 32 winners and 28 unforced errors, including one ace and five double faults. He landed 51% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (34/50). Gasquet won 57% of second serve points (29/51) and saved eight of 11 breakpoints. The French veteran compiled 42% of return points (40/95) and broke Arnaldi five times.
This was only his fifth win of the season. Gasquet improves to 2-1 on clay. This is only his second appearance in Monte Carlo since 2018. Gasquet has reached one semifinal and three quarterfinals in Monte Carlo in the past. He will retire from professional tennis after Roland Garros.
Daniel Altmaier vs Richard Gasquet Head-To-Head
• Altmaier and Gasquet have met three times on tour.
• Gasquet leads Altmaier 2-1 in the head-to-head, but it was the German who won their last meeting in Hamburg in straight sets.
Daniel Altmaier vs Richard Gasquet Prediction
I'm going with the overs here. What's fascinating about this matchup is that all three previous meetings were on clay, and it is Gasquet who holds a slender 2-1 lead. The Frenchman is playing in his farewell season, and yet he still conjured some magic in his opening round stunner. That hasn't convinced the oddsmakers of Gasquet's potential to replicate a similar level, as he opens as a +170 underdog. I still reckon this will be very competitive and a great spectacle for the neutral as two aesthetically pleasing one-handers collide.
Nur’s Pick Over 21.5 games in the match
