Jessica Pegula and Sofia Kenin clash in the final of the 2025 WTA Charleston Open on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Here's our Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin prediction. This preview will also include a Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin pick.
Jessica Pegula Preview
Jessica Pegula reached her fourth final of the 2025 season and her first in Charleston after two previous near-misses. The American top seed defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets and avenged her loss to the Russian in Doha. The match took 28 games to decide, and Pegula prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and 21 minutes. In the victory, Pegula tallied 21 winners and 26 unforced errors, including one ace and two double faults.
Pegula landed 67% of first serves in play and won 56% of first serve points (37/66). She won 45% of second serve points (15/33) and saved an incredible 15 of 21 breakpoints. Pegula compiled 50% of return points (54/107) and broke Alexandrova seven times in the match. Pegula has won one of three finals in 2025 (Austin) and lost the other two to Keys in Adelaide and Sabalenka in Miami. She is a solid 24-6 for the season. She has the joint-most wins on tour this season, together with the Belarusian World No. 1.
Sofia Kenin Preview
Here's a name you might not have expected to reach the final. Sofia Kenin has run the gauntlet to make it to the title match in Charleston. It's her first final in South Carolina. Kenin earned a retirement victory over the in-form Amanda Anisimova, who retired with a hip injury while trailing 2-5 in the first set of their semifinal.
The unseeded Kenin fully deserves this moment in the spotlight after beating two former champions in Charleston in Belinda Bencic and Daria Kasatkina and conquering Anna Kalinskaya, who had beaten Madison Keys. Kenin had never gone beyond the second round in Charleston in six previous attempts. This is her first final of the season. She hasn't won a WTA title since 2020. Overall, Kenin is 17-8 for the season.
Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin Head-To-Head
• Pegula and Kenin have met five times on the pro tour.
• Pegula leads 3-2 and beat Kenin at the 2024 US Open.
• Kenin won their last meeting on clay at the 2021 French Open.
Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin Prediction
Kenin's recent record in finals suggests she is a player under the utmost pressure. She hasn't won a title since 2020. Pegula, by contrast, won a WTA title this past month in Austin and is now the winningest player on tour with 24 match wins. Kenin has made a fool out of many people who wrote her off this week with a series of gallant performances, and I reckon she's got a shot at winning this title. But Pegula's case is far stronger. She has the all-round consistency and better record in title matches.
