Tommy Paul and Jenson Brooksby clash in the semifinal of the 2025 ATP Houston Open on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Here's our Tommy Paul vs Jenson Brooksby prediction. This preview will also include a Tommy Paul vs Jenson Brooksby pick.
Tommy Paul Preview
Tommy Paul is coming off a 6-1, 7-6 win over qualifier Colton Smith. The match took 90 minutes. Paul compiled 23 winners and 19 unforced errors, including three aces and two double faults. The top seed landed 47% of first serves in play and won 92% of first serve points (22/24). Paul won 70% of second serve points (19/27) and saved all three breakpoints on his serve. He won 44% of return points (31/71) and broke Smith three times in the match.
Paul is playing in the Houston main draw for the fourth time in his career. This is his best result (semifinal). He has already reached two semifinals before this week, but not a final this season. Last year, he won three ATP titles. Paul last made a clay-court final at the 2023 Aix-en-Provence Challenger.
Jenson Brooksby Preview
Jenson Brooksby defeated fellow American Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets to reach the Houston semifinals. The match took 27 games to decide and lasted two hours and 22 minutes. Brooksby prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the victory, he hit 26 winners and 27 unforced errors. Brooksby didn't account for any aces but registered three double faults. He landed 64% of first serves in play and won 62% of first serve points (34/55).
Brooksby won 52% of second serve points (16/31) and saved seven of 11 breakpoints. The former World No. 33 won 43% of return points (39/90) and broke Kovacevic five times. Brooksby has now won five matches in this tournament, with two of those in qualifying. He improves to 8-6 for the season. This will be his first ATP semifinal since his return.
Tommy Paul vs Jenson Brooksby Head-To-Head
• Paul and Brooksby have met three times on the ATP level.
• Paul leads the head-to-head 3-0 and beat Brooksby most recently in Dallas in three sets a couple of months ago.
Tommy Paul vs Jenson Brooksby Prediction
Brooksby hasn't taken long to find his feet, reaching his first ATP semifinal just three months after his return. He stretched Paul to three sets when they met in Dallas in February, and the top seed can ill afford to take his eyes off the ball here. If anything, Brooksby has shown he's got the stamina to go the long haul (has played five matches this week), and Paul might need to take even more risks to break him. That said, I still fancy the higher-ranked Paul, whose consistent serving is winning him close sets.
