Gael Monfils Preview
Gael Monfils defeated Fabian Marozsan of Hungary in the first round in three sets. The match took 28 games to decide with Monfils prevailing 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 46 minutes. In the victory, Monfils fired 38 winners and 19 unforced errors including 15 aces and three double faults.
Monfils landed 65% of first serves in play and won 78% of first serve points (42/54). The Frenchman won 52% of second serve points (15/29) and saved five of seven break points. Monfils tallied 39% of return points (36/93) and broke Marozsan three times. He improves to 12-4 for the season and picked up his third win of this year's Sunshine Swing after reaching the third round in Indian Wells over a week ago.
Monfils has now won three of his last six matches. Before that, he had won eight in a row. He is a former quarterfinalist at the Miami Open, but that was nine years ago.
Jiri Lehecka Preview
Jiri Lehecka is the 26th seed at the 2025 Miami Open and had a BYE in the opening round. His campaign will start in the second round. This will be his third main draw in Florida. He reached the third round on his debut in 2023, but lost in the second round to Alexei Popyrin last season.
Lehecka has won three of his last six matches. But he is on a three-match losing run coming to Miami. Two weeks ago, he was beaten by Cameron Norrie from a set up in Indian Wells.
Lehecka has reached the semifinals or better in two ATP tournaments this season. He was champion in Brisbane and made the last four in Doha where he earned the biggest win of his career over Carlos Alcaraz.

Gael Monfils vs Jiri Lehecka Prediction
Both players caught fire Down Under at the start of the year and then faded in recent weeks. I'm on Monfils in this one. The Frenchman starts as the underdog at +107 and I reckon there is great value in backing him outright. He is irresistible on hard courts this year, defying age at times with his flashy but effective tennis. Unless there is a drastic change in Lehecka's ball striking this should be Monfils' match to lose.
