Coco Gauff and Sofia Kenin clash in the second round of the 2025 WTA Miami Open on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Here's our Coco Gauff vs Sofia Kenin prediction. This preview will also include a Coco Gauff vs Sofia Kenin pick.
Coco Gauff Preview
Coco Gauff is the third seed at the 2025 WTA Miami Open. She has reached the second week twice in her career but has never advanced beyond the round of 16 in five previous trips to Florida. Last year, she lost to Caroline Garcia in the last 16.
Gauff has posted 11 wins from 15 matches. Her season started in Australia, where she helped the USA win the United Cup, sweeping all of her five singles matches there. But she was stunned by Paula Badosa in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
That marked the start of a three-match losing streak, with Gauff also losing to Marta Kostyuk in Doha and countrywoman McCartney Kessler in Dubai. Those back-to-back defeats meant that Gauff remained without a WTA title in the first two months of 2025.
The 21-year-old is coming off a round of 16 run in Indian Wells, where she beat Moyuka Uchijima and Maria Sakkari before losing to Belinda Bencic.
Sofia Kenin Preview
Sofia Kenin is coming off a straight sets win over Czech wild card Petra Kvitova. The match took 20 games to decide. Kenin prevailed 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 26 minutes. The defeat extends Kvitova's winless run since her comeback to three matches.
For Kenin it is an improvement from last year when she got knocked out in the first round. In the victory, Kenin hit 17 winners and 18 unforced errors, including one ace and one double fault. Kenin landed 88% of first serves in play and won 71% of first serve points (36/51).
Kenin tallied 57% of second serve points (4/7) and faced two break points (0-2). The American compiled 45% of return points (32/71) and broke the two-time Wimbledon champion four times in the match.
Kenin improves to 12-7 for the season. She has won five of her last seven matches. Her last two defeats have been to Top 20 players.
Coco Gauff vs Sofia Kenin Head-To-Head
• Gauff and Kenin have an interesting rivalry. They have met four times on the WTA level.
• The head-to-head is locked at 2-2.
• Both of Kenin's two wins were at Grand Slams (2020 Australian Open, 2023 Wimbledon).
• Gauff beat Kenin in Auckland two years ago and most recently at the 2025 Australian Open.
Coco Gauff vs Sofia Kenin Prediction
Despite her serving struggles in Indian Wells, I'm still convinced Gauff will turn this unwelcome spell of poor results into a fruitful run very soon. But this is far from a walk in the park. Kenin is scrappy and tends to play some incredible counterpunching tennis against the world's top players. She has also beaten Gauff twice in high-stakes matches before. Still, Kenin's game is riddled with errors and if Gauff can sort her serve and blend it with her consistent footwork, she'll win.
