Coco Gauff and Moyuka Uchijima meet in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Here's our Coco Gauff vs Moyuka Uchijima prediction. This article will also include a Coco Gauff vs Moyuka Uchijima pick.
Coco Gauff Preview
Coco Gauff is the No. 3 seed in the 2025 BNP Paribas Open. This will be the American's fifth main draw appearance in Indian Wells. Gauff lost in the third round in her first two appearances. She reached the semifinal in 2023 in what remains her best appearance in this event. Last year, she lost in the quarterfinal to Maria Sakkari.
Gauff has not won a title this season at WTA level but was part of the USA team that won its second United Cup title in Australia. Her Australian swing ended with a quarterfinal defeat to Paula Badosa in the Australian Open.
She is currently on a three-match losing after losing back-to-back matches in the Middle East. She was beaten by Marta Kostyuk in Doha and compatriot McCartney Kessler in Dubai, all in straight sets.
Gauff has compiled a 9-3 record this season. Her last title on U.S. soil was at the 2023 US Open.
Moyuka Uchijima Preview
Moyuka Uchijima is coming off one of the best victories of her career in the first round. She beat former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in straight sets.
The match took 17 games to decide and lasted 84 minutes. Uchijima prevailed 6-3, 6-2. In the victory, Uchijima hit 22 winners and 24 unforced errors. That included two aces and two double faults. The Japanese landed 53% of first serves in play and won 59% of first serve points (19/32).
She won 57% of second serve points (16/28) and saved three of five break points on her serve. On the return, she won 56% of points (30/54) and converted five of 10 break points. This was her third main draw win of the season and a first in Indian Wells.

Coco Gauff vs Moyuka Uchijima Prediction
A three-match losing streak is not something you associate with Coco Gauff. The last time it happened was three years ago in the WTA Finals when she lost all her group-stage matches. So Gauff will be desperate to get away from this mental rut. It doesn't always have to be pretty in terms of the scoreline, but a win is vital especially with the season entering a very busy phase and she needs to regain her lost confidence. That said, I do expect her to bounce back.
