Kei Nishikori and Ugo Humbert meet in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Friday, March 7, 2025. Here's our Kei Nishikori vs Ugo Humbert prediction. This article will also include a Kei Nishikori vs Ugo Humbert pick.
Kei Nishikori Preview
Kei Nishikori won a three-hour match in the first round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open. It was his first appearance in Indian Wells in four years. The Japanese veteran knocked out Spain's Jaume Munar in a match that took 33 games to decide. In the victory, Nishikori hammered 46 winners and 69 unforced errors. That tally included two aces and six double faults by Nishikori.
Nishikori landed 67% of first serves in play and won 64% of first serve points (55/86). He won 48% of second serve points (20/42) and saved 10 of 14 break points on his serve. Nishikori tallied 42% of return points (41/98) and converted five of eight break points.
Nishikori last advanced into the third round of Indian Wells in 2019. Nishikori has won seven of 12 matches in 2025. The win snaps a three-match losing run for Nishikori on the ATP Tour.
Ugo Humbert Preview
Ugo Humbert is the 18th seed in this year's BNP Paribas Open. Because of that, he had a bye in the first round. Humbert will compete in the Indian Wells main draw for the fifth time in his career. He has reached the third round of this tournament in each of his last two visits to California. That remains his benchmark for now.
Humbert has won 10 of 13 matches in 2025 in all competitions. His best results include lifting the ATP 250 in Marseille and reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open. The French No. 1 is coming off a three-set loss in Dubai against Tallon Griekspoor where Humbert surrendered his title in the ATP 500 event.
This is his first match in two weeks. Humbert has won seven of his last eight matches.
Kei Nishikori vs Ugo Humbert Head-To-Head
• Nishikori and Humbert have no history. This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.
Kei Nishikori vs Ugo Humbert Prediction
Nishikori will be delighted to get a day off after his marathon first-round match, which lasted exactly three hours. Given his injury history, an extra day of rest is vital to recharging his body. But his chances of progressing at this stage are extremely slim as the draw pits him against a seeded player who is in form. Humbert won a title as recently as mid-February and we reckon the Frenchman will have too much for the former US Open finalist. Humbert is the fluid mover and has aggressive depth to push Nishikori far back. Give me Humbert in three.
Nur’s Pick Ugo Humbert in three sets
