Iva Jovic and Julia Grabher meet in the first round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Here's our Iva Jovic vs Julia Grabher prediction. This article will also include an Iva Jovic vs Julia Grabher pick.
Iva Jovic Preview
American Iva Jovic will play in her maiden WTA 1000 main draw in Indian Wells. Jovic is a California native and one of the best young newcomers on tour. She’s only 17 but is a former junior World No. 2.
Jovic is a three-time champion on the ITF Tour and is coming off a runner-up finish at the W30 Arcadia ITF (lost to Kayla Cross). This season, she picked up her second Grand Slam main draw win at the Australian Open, when as a wild card, she beat Nuria Parrizas Diaz in straight sets before losing to Elena Rybakina.
Jovic has compiled an 8-4 record this year and is currently sitting at a career-high ranking of World No. 157. Jovic has won seven of her last eight matches after losing three in a row between January and mid-February.
Julia Grabher Preview
Julia Grabher is using a special ranking to access the Indian Wells main draw. This will be her first appearance at Tennis Paradise. Grabher has a 1-6 record in 2025. She is playing after an injury-riddle 2024 season where Grabher missed the first three months of that year and then suffered extensive ranking damage upon her return to competition.
The Austrian is back in the top 400 thanks to a title win at the ITF in Santa Margherita Di Pula in September 2024. Overall, Grabher had a 21-19 record last season which was a respectable return considering her circumstances.
Grabher has lost her last six matches in a row, winning just one set in that time. She is coming off a straight-sets loss to Maya Joint in Merida, Mexico this past week.
Iva Jovic vs Julia Grabher Head-To-Head
• Jovic and Grabher have never met on Tour. This will be their first clash at the WTA level.
Iva Jovic vs Julia Grabher Prediction
The odds are a clear reflection of both players' career trajectories and form. Grabher is more of a clay-court specialist, winning over 200 matches in her pro. The 28-year-old's hard-court record is mediocre at best, with more defeats than wins. And she's lost her last six matches on the surface coming to Indian Wells. In her last match in Merida, Grabher lost to 18-year-old Maya Joint. It will be another teenager targeting to knock off the Austrian. Jovic is a rising youngster who has notched a couple of big wins in WTA main draws, but none will taste sweeter than in her some state. If Jovic comes out swinging early on, this could end quickly.
