Denis Shapovalov and Marcos Giron meet in the quarterfinal of the 2025 ATP Mexican Open in Acapulco on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Here's our Denis Shapovalov vs Marcos Giron prediction. This article will also include a Denis Shapovalov vs Marcos Giron pick.

Denis Shapovalov Preview

Denis Shapovalov won his second-round match against a fatigued Alex Michelsen in straight sets. Shapovalov is the ninth seed at the Mexican Open. He reached his first quarterfinal in Acapulco courtesy of a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

In the win, Shapovalov hit 18 winners and 21 unforced errors. That tally included three aces and three double faults. Shapovalov landed 57% of his first serves in play and won 67% of first serve points (20/30).

The World No. 32 won 74% of second serve points (17/23) and saved three of five break points. Shapovalov compiled 52% of the return points won (29/56) and broke Michelsen four times in the match.

This is Shapovalov's ninth win of an excellent start to 2025 in which he lifted his third career title in Dallas. Next up for him, is a man he has not beaten in two previous meetings.

Marcos Giron Preview

Marcos Giron secured passage into the last eight of the Mexican Open thanks to a walkover. His opponent was Tommy Paul, but the World No. 10 withdrew from the match at the 11th hour due to illness.

Giron, therefore,  will contest a second quarterfinal in Acapulco. He reached this stage back in 2022 and lost to Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.

The 31-year-old opened his account this week with a straight-sets win over Adam Walton of Australia. Giron has won seven out of 10 matches played in 2025.

His best results include reaching two quarterfinals on hard courts (Adelaide and Delray).

Denis Shapovalov vs Marcos Giron Head-To-Head

• Shapovalov and Giron have met twice on the ATP Tour.

• Giron won both meetings. The first one was on the clay of Houston last season and the American triumphed more recently at the Adelaide International last month.

• Both matches were settled in straight sets.

Denis Shapovalov vs Marcos Giron Prediction

Giron has had Shapovalov's number in two previous head-to-head meetings, but the dynamic Canadian ought to be considered the favorite here. He's been playing with so much concentration in the last few weeks and that spectacular title win in Dallas in which he beat three top 10 players reminded us of his explosive talent. If he continues to harness his power much more effectively, then he'll easily come out on top against the baseline-heavy game of Giron. I'm taking Shapovalov here. Seven-match win streak and peaking at just the right time.

Nur’s Pick Denis Shapovalov in straight sets
