Jodie Burrage was a decision away from retirement in the middle of 2024. She played in San Diego qualifying at this time last year and was out of action thereafter for almost seven months.

Burrage underwent wrist surgery in March 2024 and also injured her ankle in May, prompting her to have second thoughts on whether to stick on the Tour.

The Briton trusted her instincts and decided to give tennis a second chance and she had some very positive results on her return to action. She won her biggest career title at the W100 ITF in Dubai during the off-season.

Her ranking finally shot up to inside the top 200 after winning two main draw matches this year. She came close to pushing Coco Gauff to three sets at the Australian Open but lost in two tight sets.

Burrage last featured in Cluj-Napoca at the start of February, losing to Ana Bogdan in the first round.

However, the possibility of Kvitova slipping up on her first match is very high.

Burrage isn't the most intimidating first-round opponent for Kviova, but the Briton will likely keep her unforced errors in check thanks to consistent match play ever since her return from wrist surgery.
