Denis Shapovalov and Cameron Norrie clash in the first round of the 2025 ATP Mexican Open in Acapulco on Monday, February 24, 2025. Here's our Denis Shapovalov vs Cameron Norrie prediction. This article will also include a Denis Shapovalov vs Cameron Norrie pick.

Denis Shapovalov Preview

Denis Shapovalov has enjoyed a career resurgence in 2025. The Canadian lefty began his season at the Hong Kong Open, where he lost to Kei Nishikori in straight sets.

Shapovalov then played at the Adelaide International, securing his first win of the year by defeating China’s newest star Zhang Zhizhen. However, he was knocked out in the subsequent round by Marcos Giron.

At the Australian Open, Shapovalov made it to the second round but lost to Italy’s Bronze Medalist winner Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.

It was in February when Shapovalov’s season took off. He clinched his third ATP title at the Dallas Open. He completed one of the most memorable weeks of his career by defeating three Top 10 players including World No. 4 Taylor Fritz en route to the title. That success propelled him back into the Top 40 of the ATP rankings.

So far, he has compiled a 7-3 win-loss record in 2025. This will be his third main draw appearance in Acapulco.

Cameron Norrie Preview

Cameron Norrie is ranked 59th in the ATP rankings and is playing in Acapulco for the sixth time in his career.

Norrie has done quite well in this event in the past, reaching the semifinal in 2019 and the final in 2022. But he hasn't been to Acapulco since losing to Rafael Nadal three years ago.

The Briton has compiled a 5-5 win-loss record in 2025. He was a quarterfinalist in Hong Kong in the opening week of the season and more recently in Delray. Between those two results, Norrie has a spotty record, with two first-round exits including at the Australian Open where he lost to Matteo Berrettini.

Denis Shapovalov vs Cameron Norrie Head-To-Head

• Shapovalov and Norrie have played twice on the ATP Tour.

• Norrie won both meetings in straight sets in the 2021 season at Queen's and in San Diego.

Denis Shapovalov vs Cameron Norrie Prediction

I'm not ignoring Shapovlaov's recent momentum coming into this match even though he has a tendency to feel relaxed after a big result. The Canadian is trending upward after two inconsistent years. Shapovalov is all about power and first-strike tennis and these courts should suit him. It's been a while since Norrie was recognized as a dangerous floater in the draw and right now he doesn't strike much fear into his opponents and his ranking fall justifies it - he's a shell of his former self. Maybe he can still summon the patient point construction and grind out a result, but he doesn't have the form to back it up. Give me Shapovalov in the games spread.

Nur’s Pick Denis Shapovalov games handicap -5.5
