Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov meet in the second round of the 2025 Dallas Open on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Here's our Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov prediction. This preview will also include a Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov pick.
Taylor Fritz Preview
Taylor Fritz is playing in Dallas for the first time in two years and started his campaign with a routine straight sets win over Arthur Rinderknech, who he has had some feisty moments with on the court.
This time, there was no drama. Fritz won the match 6-4, 6-2 in 67 minutes to reach the last 16. In the victory, Fritz fired 11 aces and did not account for a single double fault.
He landed 67% of first serves in play and won an impressive 93% of first serve points (27/29). Fritz won 64% of second serve points (9/14) and never faced a break point in the entire match.
On the return, Fritz won 43% of points (25/58) and broke Rinderknech's serve three times. Fritz improves his 2025 record to 7-2. His two losses this year have been to Felix Auger-Aliassime (United Cup) and Gael Monfils (Australian Open).
Denis Shapovalov Preview
Denis Shapovalov defeated Miomir Kecmanovic for the fifth time without reply on the ATP Tour. Despite the Serbian's best efforts to stretch the match into a third set, it was Shapovalov who held his nerve to win.
The match took 31 games to decide and lasted precisely two hours. In the victory, Shapovalov hit 20 aces and only four double faults.
The Canadian landed 60% of first serves in play and won 88% of first serve points (52/59). He won 49% of second serve points (19/39) and saved four of five break points on his serve.
Shapovalov won 34% of return points (32/93) and broke Kecmanovic's serve three times in the match. He has now won 14 out of 19 matches on indoor hard courts since the start of the 2024 season. That run includes a title win in Belgrade.
Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov Head-To-Head
• Fritz and Shapovalov have met nine times on the ATP Tour.
• Shapovalov leads Fritz 5-4 in the head-to-head, but Fritz has won their last two matches on outdoor hard courts.
Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction
Fritz is now sitting at a career-high ranking of World No. 4 and having to deal with a lot of expectations. Anything less than a title win this week can easily be classified as an underachievement by many observers. If anything, Fritz's Australian Open campaign was a massive disappointment, so he'll be looking to make up those lost points when he looked certain to reach the second week.
Shapovalov has a slender in this rivalry but most of those wins came at a time when he enjoyed a ranking climb. I still think this will be a close match. The Canadian's cannon of a serve will likely match that of Fritz, but the American has superior mental clarity of situations and is more consitent in rallies. The wise move is to back the overs here with Fritz holding the edge on money line.
