Dayana Yastremska Preview
Dayana Yastremska advanced into her first WTA final in three years at the Linz Open. The Ukrainian upset in-form Dane Clara Tauson in straight sets in Saturday's semifinal.
The match took 17 games to decide and lasted an hour and 46 minutes. Yastremska hit six aces and seven double faults in the victory.
She landed 51% of first serves and won 73% of first serve points (29/40). Yastremska won 54% of second serve points (21/39) and saved all nine break points she faced in the match.
The World No. 72 won 45% of return points (27/60) and converted three of 10 break points. Yastremska had also accounted for wins over Lucia Bronzetti, Antonia Ruzic, and Maria Sakkar all in straight sets.
This will be her sixth career final at this level. Yastremska won her first three finals (Hong Kong, Hua Hin and Strasbourg), but has lost her last two finals (Adelaide and Lyon).
Ekaterina Alexandrova Preview
Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated the top seed Karolina Muchova 6-0, 6-4 to reach her ninth WTA final of her career. The big-serving Russian needed only 75 minutes to sweep off the Czech favorite.
She hit six aces and four double faults. Alexandrova landed 67% of first serves and won 77% of first serve points (27/35)
Alexandrova won 59% of second serve points (10/17) and saved all four break points on her serve.
The World No. 30 won 51% of return points (25/49) and converted four of six break points on Muchova's serve.
Alexandrova has won four of her eight WTA finals. But two of four defeats in title matches have been at Linz, with the most recent one coming just 12 months ago to big-hitting Jelena Ostapenko.
Dayana Yastremska vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Head-To-Head
• Yastremska and Alexandrova have met five times at all levels.
• Alexandrova leads the head-to-head 3-2 winning their last encounter at the 2022 Libema Open in three sets.
Dayana Yastremska vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Prediction
Alexandrova is a four-time champion on Tour and the manner of her straight-sets demolition of top seed Karolina Muchova makes her the favorite in this match at -149. Yastremska has done fantastic work to make up for lost points from the Australian Open and is guaranteed a top 50 return with her run to the final in Linz (can rise as high as 40th with a title win).
Both players did not drop serve in their semifinal matches, with Yastremska perhaps the most impressive in that stat saving a jaw-dropping nine break points against Tauson. Yastremska's forehand acceleration has been a menace this week, but Alexandrova might force her hand into spraying some errors that could be detrimental. The Russian has the better serve and will look to rack up the ace count. In the end, Alexandrova's more measured approach is probably why she'll be the one to stop Yastremska in Linz. The Russian has also been unsuccessful in two previous finals in this tournament, so she can source some motivation to get over the line this time. Give me Alexandrova to win on the money line.
