Richard Gasquet who is two years older than Mannarino is making his 13th and final appearance in Montpellier.

Gasquet is one of the most successful players in the history of this ATP 250 event, reaching six finals in total and lifting the title on three occasions. But the last of those triumphs was all the way back in 2016. 

Gasquet has lost in the opening round in each of his last two trips back on home soil competing in Montpellier and without winning a set.

The 38-year-old is ranked a lowly 132nd in the ATP rankings and is set to retire at this year's Roland Garros. So, this is his farewell season.

The former World No. 7 has played in two tournaments in 2025, losing in the Brisbane qualifying to Yannick Hanfmann and more recently at the Australian Open qualifying first round to Duje Ajdukovic.

Both players are experts indoors. Mannarino's flat and penetrating ground strokes make him a nightmare to play against which explains why he performed so well while competing in Bercy at the end of last season. This could be the kind of tournament to kickstart his year.I give a slight edge to Mannarino here. He's had the more testing matches than Gasquet in the opening weeks of the new season and has probably shown a bit more ambition. Give me Mannarino to win at -143.
