Alexander Zverev and Pedro Martinez meet in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Here's our Alexander Zverev vs Pedro Martinez prediction. This preview also includes an Alexander Zverev vs Pedro Martinez pick.

Alexander Zverev Preview

Alexander Zverev beat Lucas Pouille of France in three sets in his opening match of the 2025 Australian Open. The match took 30 games to decide and lasted two hours and 22 minutes.

Zverev won in three identical sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. The German recorded 40 winners and 29 unforced errors, including 18 aces and two double faults.

Zverev landed 73% of first serves and won 78% of first-serve points (50/64). The second seed won 63% of second-serve points (15/24).

Zverev held in all 15 of his service games in the match and saved two break points on his serve. He won 42% of return points (47/113) and converted three of 18 break points.

This was Zverev’s third match win of 2025 (he beat Zhang and Monteiro at the United Cup).

Pedro Martinez Preview

Pedro Martinez defeated Italy’s Luciano Darderi by retirement to snap a two-match losing run. The match took 14 games to decide and lasted an hour and 11 minutes.

Martinez led 6-3, 4-1 when his opponent retired through injury. The Spaniard recorded 13 winners and six unforced errors in that short workout.

Martinez landed 76% of first serves and won 72% of first-serve points (23/32). He won 60% of second-serve points (6/10).

Martinez held in six of seven service games in the match and saved four of five break points on his serve.

He won 54% of return points (31/57) and converted four of seven break points. This was Martinez’s second win of the season (he also beat Passaro in Hong Kong).

Alexander Zverev vs Pedro Martinez Head-To-Head

• Zverev and Martinez have met once on the ATP Tour.

• Zverev won that meeting in the semifinal of the Hamburg Open on clay last season.

Alexander Zverev vs Pedro Martinez Prediction

Martinez has scaled the second round stage of the Australian Open once in his career, but don't expect him to get anything from this match. Yes, Zverev has lost at this stage in Melbourne as recently as 2023, but that was in the early stages of his comeback from a gruesome ankle injury. He's probably the most decorated player not to win a Grand Slam tournament, but I reckon he'll have a great tournament if he stays healthy and clears some of the mental scars that keep holding him back in these big events. I expect Zverev to be all over the Martinez serve, creating as many break points and powering to the third round effortlessly.

Nur’s Pick Under 29.5 games in the match
