Elena Rybakina and Emerson Jones meet in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Here's our Elena Rybakina vs Emerson Jones prediction. This preview also includes an Elena Rybakina vs Emerson Jones pick.
Elena Rybakina Preview
Elena Rybakina had another excellent build-up to the Australian Open. Instead of defending her title in Brisbane, Rybakina opted to play in the United Cup.
She represented Kazakhstan as the No. 1 WTA player from her country in the competition and almost single-handedly took them to the title.
Unfortunately for Kazakhstan, they came unstuck in the semifinal against Iga Swiatek's Poland. Rybakina's only defeat in the competition came against the World No. 2 Swiatek, losing in a tight straight sets match.
Before that, she had beaten Bouzas Maneiro, Maria Sakkari, and Laura Siegemund without the loss of a set. She will be competing in her sixth Australian Open main draw. Rybakina made the final two years ago, losing to Aryna Sabalenka.
Last year, she lost to Anna Blinkova in the second round after spurning multiple match points in a historic final set tie-break.
Emerson Jones Preview
Emerson Jones will make her full Grand Slam senior debut at the 2025 Australian Open. Last year, she lost in the first round of qualifying to Priscilla Hon.
Jones has been a granted a main draw wild card by the tournament organizers who have full faith in her potential. The 16-year-old is the current junior World No. 1 and arrives in Melbourne with a maiden Top 50 win in the bag.
Jones defeated China's Wang Xinyu in the first round of Adelaide this past week and bravely competed against World No. 10 Daria Kasatkina, losing in straight sets but winning eight games in the match.
Jones won her biggest career title at the W60 ITF tournament in Sydney last November and is currently ranked world No. 263 in the official WTA rankings.

Elena Rybakina vs Emerson Jones Prediction
I like Jones' potential. I thought she was very impressive while competing in Adelaide a week ago, getting her first top 50 win in style. She's obviously one of the finest young players of her generation and the tournament organizers have full faith in her abilities.
This will be a very good experience for her in front of her home crowd and family and I'm sure not a sentient being is expecting anything remotely close to an upset except that Jones will show us some of her raw talent. Rybakina is a world beater and one of the WTA's elite players who is coming off a very good run at the United Cup where she won three of four singles matches. This is also her first Grand Slam tournament with new coach Goran Ivanisevic. Expect more of the same from the Kazakh.
Nur’s Pick Elena Rybakina to win AND under 17.5 games
