Iga Swiatek and Katerina Siniakova meet in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open on Monday, January 13, 2025. Here's our Iga Swiatek vs Katerina Siniakova prediction. This preview also includes an Iga Swiatek vs Katerina Siniakova pick.

Iga Swiatek Preview

Iga Swiatek can accomplish two goals in the next fortnight. The World No. 1 ranking is on the line and she can reclaim it if she wins the tournament at the very least.

Swiatek can also win her sixth Grand Slam, and her second on hard court. This has been her second least successful Grand Slam, losing in the third round last year to Linda Noskova.

The Pole's best result was making it to the semis in 2022, the same year she rose to World No. 1.

Swiatek started her 2025 campaign at the United Cup representing Team Poland. She was instrumental in helping her country reach the final in Sydney for the second successive year. But when it counted, Poland lost to the USA 2-0.

Swiatek accounted for her only loss of the season so far against Coco Gauff.

Katerina Siniakova Preview

Katerina Siniakova is ranked 46th in the WTA rankings and will be playing in her 12th Australian Open main draw.  It's been over a decade since she made her debut in Melbourne, but she only has THREE match wins from 11 previous visits.

It's an appalling record, but she's had a far more accomplished track record in doubles, winning the Australian Open women's doubles title twice in her career.

On that evidence, it's clear her ambitions probably don't dwell on her singles performances and that will most likely be the case this fortnight. Siniakova will play doubles with Taylor Townsend.

She has played in one tournament this year, and that was in Adelaide this past week where she qualified for the main draw after beating Ashlyn Krueger and Cristina Bucsa, but lost in the first round to Diana Shnaider.

Iga Swiatek vs Katerina Siniakova Head-To-Head

• Swiatek and Siniakova have never met at a professional level, so this will be their first meeting.

Iga Swiatek vs Katerina Siniakova Prediction

Siniakova is a tricky first-round opponent and one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the draw. One of the reasons why top players don't particularly fancy playing her is because of her unconventional style as she can easily combine power and finesse to disrupt their rhythm. She's also armed with exceptional net skills thanks to her doubles expertise.

But I'm with Swiatek here. She's just too consistent, precise, and a great neutralizer of Siniakova's quirky style and creativity. Swiatek's defense is among the best in the world. Siniakova's record at this tournament (singles) is among the worst, with just three main draw wins in 11 years. Give me the World No. 2 in straight sets.

Nur’s Pick Iga Swiatek in straight sets
