Diana Shnaider and Marketa Vondrousova Prediction
Shnaider was one of the standout players on the WTA Tour this past year in which she won 55 matches and lost only 23. With four titles spread across all surfaces, no woman could claim that accolade last season. She was a sensation, to say the least, and should have been awarded the Most Improved Player of the Year trophy if it were not for the breakthrough year of Emma Navarro.
That said, this should be a litmus test of Shnaider's ambitions. The top 10 is within reach as she is only three spots away and the good thing is that she doesn't defend any points during the Australian swing. So any wins she can rack up between now and the end of January will count toward her ranking surge. Vondrousova only returned to competition recently after spending the whole second half of last season in the treatment room because of a shoulder injury. It's an intriguing battle of the lefties, but I'm with Shnaider who has much consistency and power off the ground to hit through a very vulnerable Vondrousova.
