Aryna Sabalenka and Mirra Andreeva meet in the semifinal of the 2025 Brisbane International on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Here's our Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva prediction. This preview will also include an Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva pick.
Aryna Sabalenka Preview
Aryna Sabalenka progressed into her first semifinal of the 2025 season with a convincing straight sets win over Marie Bouzkova.
It was a case of sweet revenge for Sabalenka who lost to the Czech upon returning to action from a shoulder injury in last year's Washington tournament.
Sabalenka required an hour and 46 minutes in a match that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, she hit six aces and landed 64% of first serves.
Sabalenka won 80% of first-serve points (33/41) and 48% of second-serve points (11/23), while saving four of five break points.
The Belarusian 45% of return points (31/69) and converted three of 10 break points. Sabalenka reached last year's Brisbane final and lost to Elena Rybakina.
She is the top seed this week and has scored wins over Renata Zarazua and Yulia Putintseva. Sabalenka has won at least one title in each of the last two seasons in Australia including two Australian Opens.
Mirra Andreeva Preview
Russian teen sensation Mirra Andreeva has improved on her Brisbane appearance from last year, reaching the last four for the first time. Andreeva had lost to Linda Noskova in the quarterfinals last season, but defeated the Czech in a rematch in the last 16 this week.
After reaching a second successive quarterfinal, she met Ons Jabeur, whom Andreeva has idolized since her childhood. But it was Andreeva who got the better of the experienced Tunisian again, just like the last time they met on Australian soil 12 months ago.
This time, a healthy Jabeur fell 4-6, 6-7 in a one and a half hours. Andreeva hit four aces and three double faults and landed 59% of first serves and won 72% of first-serve points (33/46).
Andreeva won 50% of second-serve points (16/32) and saved four of seven break points on her serve. The 17-year-old won 43% of return points (30/69) and converted four of five break points on the Jabeur serve.
Andreeva reached a final in her last WTA tournament of 2024 in Ningbo where she lost to Daria Kasatkina. She can start the year with a bang by picking up from where she left off.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva Head-To-Head
• Sabalenka and Andreeva have met three times on the WTA level.
• All three meetings have been contested on clay, with Sabalenka holding a narrow 2-1 advantage.
• However, the last time they played it was Andreeva who came out on top in the 2024 French Open quarterfinal.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Mirra Andreeva Prediction
Both of Sabalenka's wins against Andreeva were in Madrid in back-to-back years and that is of relevance because Madrid has some of the fastest clay courts in professional tennis. So, Sabalenka probably will have the bit between her teeth here on a surface where her explosive power shines in Brisbane. Andreeva must hope the Belarusian is off her game, just as it was at Roland Garros last season where Sabalenka was reportedly ill. She'll need Sabalenka to miss a lot, but the World No. 1 is almost unstoppable when she gets to this stage of a competition.
