Grigor Dimitrov is the second seed and one of only two members in the Top 10 taking part at the 2025 Brisbane International.

Dimitrov is one of the most decorated players in the history of this ATP 250 event. He is a two-time champion and defends the title this week after lifting the trophy last season by beating Holger Rune in the final to end a very long title drought.

The Bulgarian was a runner-up when he made his debut at the event 12 years ago and has also achieved two semifinal finishes.

Overall, it is a happy hunting ground and it makes sense that he opted to start his 2025 campaign there.

33-year-old Yannick Hanfmann came through qualifying last weekend to reach the main draw at the 2025 Brisbane International.

Hanfmann beat Australia's Jacob Bradshaw in the first round of qualifying 6-4, 6-2 in 73 minutes, averaging over 70% of points won behind first and second serves.

In the second round, he beat veteran Richard Gasquet who is due to retire at this year's Roland Garros, also in straight sets.

But the match was a lot closer, with Hanfmann fighting back from 2-4 down in the opening set and winning it in a tie-break. The German secured the one break he needed in the second set to clinch victory, converting his third match point.

Hanfmann has reached the second-round stage in each of his two previous visits to this tournament.

Hanfmann's strong qualifying campaign should give him extra optimism about progressing into the second round. But he'll need no reminding of the last time he set foot to face Dimitrov on a hard court, with the Bulgarian showing his class and dexterity to sweep him away. The only reason why I can't forecast this being one-sided is that it is the opening match of the season and the top players are always at risk of being caught cold. Still, I would be shocked if Dimitrov didn't close this out in straight sets.
