Olivia Gadecki cracked the world’s Top 100 for the first time in a breakthrough season last year. She peaked at a career-high ranking of No. 83 but finished the season as World No. 96.

The Aussie was in terrific form in the second half of the campaign, reaching two finals including the biggest of her young career at the WTA 500 event in Guadalajara, scoring wins over the likes of Sloane Stephens and Danielle Collins.

While Gadecki was unfortunate not to convert that good form into trophies, her efforts have been recognized and has earned a nomination into the Australian team for this year’s United Cup as a playing member.

She got a taste of what it is like to play in this competition 12 months ago but lost her only singles match to Bouzas Maneiro of Spain.

Nadia Podoroska is a former Roland Garros semifinalist who has been ranked as high as World No. 36 in the past but is currently outside the Top 100.

She is appearing in the United Cup for the second year in a row. Last year, Podoroska lost her two singles matches and will most likely be tasked to lead their singles campaign this time.

Podoroska earned 28 wins in 2024, mostly excelling on the 125-level, scooping titles in Barranquilla and San Luis Potosi.

The 27-year-old last competed in Merida, Mexico, but won only two games in a one-sided defeat to Polina Kudermetova. Overall, she won 28 matches (with 17 of those being on hard courts) and lost 30 in 2024.

But Gadecki has been a sensation on hard courts and probably just beats the Argentinian’s ceiling on this surface right now. Gadecki also has the comfort of playing on home soil which should aid her course for this match. Podoroska is also winless in this competition.
