Belinda Bencic is back on the WTA Tour after a maternity break and will play in her second United Cup. Her debut appearance in this competition was in 2023. Bencic beat Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan but lost her other singles match against Iga Swiatek of Poland.

Switzerland was eliminated after finishing second in the group and did not compete in last year's edition.

Last year, Bencic was ranked in the world's Top 10. She notched 31 wins and lifted two WTA titles but shut down her season in mid-September after being pregnant. 

The 27-year-old gave birth to her first child in April, but made her return to tennis in late October, playing a couple of ITF tournaments and a WTA 125K in Angers where she made the final (lost to Alycia Parks).

Chloe Paquet replaces Diane Parry as France's No. 1 female player in the 2025 United Cup. Paquet is a veteran in the sport but had never touched the world's Top 100 before this year. 

That all ended in August when she made the quarterfinal in Palermo and the semifinal of the Iasi WTA 250. But she could not maintain her position there after a six-match losing skid. 

Paquet competed in two WTA 125K events in South America during the off-season. She made the last eight in Santa Cruz but lost in the first round in Cali. She finished her 2024 campaign ranked 123rd.

The 30-year-old has never played in the United Cup before.
