Juncheng Shang and Nishesh Basavareddy meet in the second group match of the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Here's our Juncheng Shang vs Nishesh Basavareddy prediction. This article will also contain a Juncheng Shang vs Nishesh Basavareddy pick.
Juncheng Shang Preview
It wasn’t a winning debut for Chinese star Juncheng Shang who lost to Luca Van Assche 3-4, 4-2, 1-4, 3-4.
After a tight opening set in which neither player dropped serve, Shang lost it in a tie-break after gifting Van Assche three mini-breaks.
He did well to restore parity, but his level dropped considerably in the third set, and once again, it was a tie-break that settled the contest in the fourth set.
Shang finished the match with seven aces and three double faults and committed a high of 36 unforced errors, which was twice that of Van Assche.
Nishesh Basavareddy Preview
For nearly two hours Nishesh Basavareddy gave us a hint of what we can expect of him and his game at the professional level after running Alex Michelsen pretty close in his opening group match.
Unfortunately for Basavareddy, he just came up short with a few indecisive moments costing him.
But he did showcase his burgeoning baseline-oriented game, possessing an incredible backhand shot that at times took Michelsen out of his comfort zone.
The youngster compiled 20 winners and 32 unforced errors in the loss. He’ll need to win his next match to stay alive in this group.
Juncheng Shang vs Nishesh Basavareddy Head-To-Head
• Shang and Basavareddy have never met on the ATP or Challenger Tour. So, this will be their first clash.
Juncheng Shang vs Nishesh Basavareddy Prediction
It's clear that both players will need to get used to this format at the Next Gen ATP Finals. Shang's game was leaking errors in his opening match and I would be very surprised if he doesn't clean it up here. Basavareddy showed a lot of good qualities despite his heartbreaking loss to Michelsen, but this is another match where he is likely to play on the backfoot. Does he have the energy to go the full distance? Yes, judging by the number of matches he has played and won this season, but Shang has so much impetus and attacking nous to win in the end.
Nur’s Pick Juncheng Shang in four sets
