Renata Zarazua is ranked 60th in the WTA rankings, just one spot below her career-high of No. 59. The Mexican is on a five-match winning streak. 

Her last defeat was in Merida at the start of November. She was responsible for Mexico's two points in their narrow defeat to Denmark in the Billie Jean King Cup play-offs.

Zarazua has scored three wins in Charleston this week to reach the semifinal of a WTA 125K tournament for the first time since May in Parma.

She has not dropped a set in South Carolina and has accounted for wins over Alina Charaeva, Irene Burillo Escorihuela, and Louisa Chirico.

Lauren Davis Preview

Lauren Davis is ranked outside the Top 300, although she is former World No. 26.

Davis is an experienced veteran on Tour but was out of action for six months because of injury. She has played 33 matches this year and won 17 of those.

This is her second successive semifinal at the 125K level, having lost at this stage in Midland in early November. 

Davis has beaten Panna Udvarady, Astra Sharma and Gabriela Lee to reach the last four at her home tournament this week.

The American has won five of 11 matches on clay this year.

There have not been many positives to pick from Lauren Davis' season, but this run to the semifinal in Charleston should offer a ray of sunshine. She was also a semifinalist in her last tournament in Midland, so the American is growing in belief and confidence after a torrid time with injury.

But Zarazua is playing her best tennis this year, and the ranking suggests she is on course to achieve even bigger things next season. The Mexican is undefeated in her last five matches and has won 19 of her last 21 matches—a run that includes two ITF titles on US soil. She'll be tough to stop in Charleston, and with this matchup being on clay, I'm dubious of Davis' fitness since her return. Give me Zarazua to win this.
